Course Overview

The CPCS Red Card training for Lift Supervisor equips you with the skills to supervise lifting operations on site. This intensive three-day course covers your responsibilities in coordinating lifts, ensuring compliance with lift plans, and maintaining safe working practices throughout lifting activities.

Qualification Information

This focused 3-day training course prepares you for the CPCS Technical Test for Lift Supervisor. You’ll learn how to effectively supervise lifting operations, work with Appointed Persons, and ensure lift plans are executed safely.

What You’ll Learn:
• Roles and responsibilities of a Lift Supervisor
• Understanding and interpreting lift plans
• Relevant legislation including LOLER and PUWER
• Understanding BS7121 Code of Practice for safe use of cranes
• Site preparation and hazard management
• Equipment inspection procedures
• Supervising slinger/signallers and crane operators
• Communication methods and protocols
• Exclusion zone management and access control
• Load security and lifting accessory inspection
• Monitoring lift execution against plans
• Incident recognition and response procedures
• Documentation and record completion
• Coordination with other activities

Prerequisites:
You should have experience in lifting operations, ideally as a Slinger Signaller. You must hold a valid CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test (Supervisors level) passed within the last two years.

Certification Information

CPCS Red Trained Operator Card

Once you’ve successfully completed the training and passed your CPCS Technical Test, you’ll receive the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card for Lift Supervisor. Valid for two years, this card allows you to work and gain experience whilst progressing towards your NVQ qualification.

Progression to Blue Card:
To upgrade to the Blue CPCS Competent Operator Card, you must complete the NVQ Level 4 in Controlling Lifting Operations – Crane Supervision within two years of obtaining your Red Card. The Blue Card is valid for five years.

Career Development:
Red Card holders typically work supervising routine to moderately complex lifting operations. This role provides excellent exposure to diverse lifting scenarios, building the experience base needed for your NVQ and Blue Card advancement. As an experienced Lift Supervisor, you can progress to become an Appointed Person, taking on the responsibility for planning lifting operations.

  • Proof of Address: Recent utility bill or bank statement (dated within the last 3 months)
  • CSCS Health & Safety Test: Passed within the last 2 years (bring your pass certificate)
  • Passport Photo: One recent passport-sized photograph
